Responsibilities

OBXtek is currently staffing for a Principal Subject Matter Expert to provide systems programming support for SSA integration, training, acceptance and production life cycles for their Integrated database Management System (IDMS) and DB2 architecture in the Baltimore SSA facility.  The ideal candidate will also have Oracle DBA and Premise Cloud Environment experience.  The job will involve the following tasks:

 

IDMS and DB2 Software Development and Maintenance

> Maintain, test, document, and deploy IDMS and DB2 system level software features and changes.

 

Activities:

  • Analyze requirements.
  • Develop detailed procedure documents for installation, maintenance and testing.
  • Install, test, and maintain IDMS and DB2 system software.
  • Meet with fellow SSA management and staffs to develop requirements.
  • Manage the life cycle.
  • Coordinate software changes.

Create New or Modify Existing IDMS and DB2 Architectures

> Create new or modify existing IDMS CVs, DB2 subsystems in support of new SSA applications or database architecture re-engineering initiatives.

 

Activities:

  • Create new CVs and DB2 Subsystems for Integration, Training, Acceptance, and Production life cycles.
  • Upon Task Manager approval, complete appropriate change management documentation such as specific forms and SSA Change Asset and Problem Reporting System (CAPRS).
  • Update appropriate IDMS and DB2 configuration documentation to reflect changes to the architecture.
  • Communicate and work with application developers and software testers to ensure all IDMS and DB2 resources are identified and defined appropriately.

Problem Management and Production Support

> Problem resolution.

 

Activities:

  • Customize commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) monitoring software to monitor theIDMS and DB2 production environment for problems.
  • Inform SSA Management and Staffs of problems and subsequent resolutions.

All problems/ system issues are expected to be worked on until the problem is resolved, even if it requires staying extended periods of time or outside normal business hours.

 

Software Installation and Maintenance

> Install and maintain IDMS and DB2 software and third party vendor products.

 

Activities:

  • Install IDMS and DB2 system software and third party vendor software using System Modification Product/Extended (SMP/E) across SSA System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Maintain IDMS and DB2 system software and third party vendor software using SMP/E across SSA SDLC.
  • Update configuration documentation reflecting new software versions.
  • Research compatibility between IDMS, DB2 and third party vendor software.
  • Research compatibility between z/OS, Top Secret, Application software in relationship to IDMS, DB2 and third party vendor products.
  • Establish and document test plan.
  • Coordinate test activities with application development staff and external partners.
  • Document changes using SSA Change Management System (CMS).
  • Communicate and coordinate software upgrades with the Task Manager.

DB2 UDB Software Development and Maintenance

> Develop, maintain, test, document, and deploy DB2 UDB system level software features and changes.

 

Activities:

  • Analyze requirements.
  • Meet with SSA analysts, management and end-users to develop requirements.
  • Develop detailed procedure documents for installation, maintenance and testing.
  • Coordinate software changes.
  • Install, test, and maintain DB2 UDB software.
  • Manage the life cycle.

Create New or Modify DB2 UDB Architectures.

> Create new or modify existing DB2 UDB and Content Manager databases in support of new SSA applications or database architecture re-engineering initiatives.

 

Activities:

  • Create new DB2 UDB and Content Manager databases for integration, training, acceptance, and production life cycles.
  • Complete appropriate change management documentation such as specific forms and SSA Change Asset and Problem Reporting System (CAPRS).
  • Update appropriate DB2 UDB configuration documentation to reflect changes to the architecture.
  • Communicate and work with application developers and software testers to ensure all DB2 UDB resources are identified and defined appropriately.

Problem Management and Production Support

Activities:

  • Inform specified SSA personnel by phone and email of problems and subsequent resolutions. SSA personnel will be specified by the task manager.

Software Installation and Maintenance for DB2 UDB

> Perform software installation and maintenance of DB2 UDB software and third party vendor products to maintain a reliable and stable infrastructure.

 

Activities:

  • Install DB2 UDB software and third party vendor software across SSA System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Maintain DB2 UDB software and third party vendor software SSA SDLC.
  • Update configuration documentation reflecting new software versions.
  • Research compatibility between DB2 UDB and third party vendor software.
  • Research compatibility between SUN Solaris, Security Software, Application software in relationship to DB2 UDB and third party vendor products.
  • Establish and document test plan.
  • Coordinate test activities with application development staff and external partners.
  • Document changes using SSA Change Management System (CMS).
  • Communicate and coordinate software upgrades with the Task Manager.

Oracle Support for on Premise Cloud Environment

> Maintain Oracle database software, and related Oracle products: Oracle Internet Directory (OID), Oracle on VM (OVM), Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB), Oracle Enterprise User Security Services, Oracle Partitioning Product, Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), Oracle Data Guard and Oracle SQL Client.  The Oracle Environment where these products will be maintained:  Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Cloud Control 13C and Oracle Openstack Cloud Environment.

 Activities:

  • Install and maintain Oracle software versions 11G and 12.2 and OID, OEM, OWB, OEUS, RAC and OES.
  • Operate and configure Oracle. Some common activities include:
    • Create primary database storage structures (tablespaces) after application developers have designed an application.
    • Create new database objects (table, views, indexes) once application developers have designed an application.
    • Modify the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers for DB releases.
    • Enroll users and maintaining system security.
    • Ensure compliance with Oracle license agreements.
    • Control and monitor user access to the database.
    • Maintain archived data.
    • Restore databases.
    • Create new Oracle instances.
    • Manage names resolution via OID.
    • Modify the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers.
    • Perform database reorganizations, export/imports.
    • Evaluate and install Oracle security patches.
  • Write shell scripts as well as SQL scripts to monitor all processes for all Oracle databases.   Example: Scripts to alert all team members as well as the database administrators in other SSA components of problems.
  • Write UNIX based scripts to monitor database integrity, server stability, security, and intruder detection alerts, and system resources.
  • Assist Linux administrators with configuration changes to the Oracle RedHat operating systems for the x86 platform as they apply to Oracle software.
  • Assist the Linux Administrator with Virtual Manager.
  • Create job flows for Control-M batch in conjunction with backups and downloads from main-frame.
  • Troubleshoot problems at a high level using system dumps, system traces, log files and the ability to correct level of Oracle support using Metalink.
  • Develop sophisticated and sometimes complex documentation regarding processes, procedures and tasks performed.
  • Create detailed build and upgrade documents that explain precisely what was performed, how it was done and why it needed to be done.
  • Attend meetings on upcoming and ongoing projects.
  • Train SSA personnel on related software.

Qualifications

Experience:

 

>Fully qualified candidates will have 10+ years of experience with IDMS and DB2 with experience as an Oracle DBA in a Premise Cloud Environment

> Experience with Queue Replication is highly desirable but not required.

> Strong verbal and written communication skills.

> Ability to offer guidance and insight.

> Effective team player on a development team.

> Experience supporting a large user community.

> Must be able to acquire a clearance level of Public Trust.
